About Lili Su (she/her)
Lili is originally from southern China where the region is mainly Zhuang (壮族) ethnic group. Lili is from the biggest ethnic group in China named Han (汉族), and Lili often calls herself the “boring mainstream Han”. Lili loves her Chinese culture, food, and ancient wisdom passed down by generations. Lili is quadrilingual and she speaks 4 languages. These include her local dialect, Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. As a person, Lili values inclusiveness, fairness, honesty, kindness, respect and understanding.
Lili moved to Tasmania ten years ago after falling in love with Tasmania’s natural beauty, quality of fresh produce, and simple lifestyle. Now Lili residents in Huon Valley permanently with her family, 2 cats, 7 sheep, and (lost count) chickens. Outside of Lili’s professional roles, she enjoys watching documentaries, Gardening Australia, antique shows, and architectural designs. She also loves browsing beautiful gardens, spending time with her family, caring for her indoor plants, reading, and practicing yoga and meditation. Eating delicious food is also one of Lili’s passions. She often finds herself surprised by the power of food and how it connects with the cultures and the people around us.
Lili’s professional background
Lili is a registered Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. She has gained a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioural Science at Monash University and furthered her education with a Master’s degree in Social Work at UTAS. Lili is a current member registered with Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker committed to ongoing professional development. Lili has worked across various sectors with public services and not-for-profit organisations. These include mental health, suicide prevention& postvention, rehabilitation, complex trauma, neuron-related health issues, sexual assault, family violence, and child safety issues. Lili is well-equipped to support and enhance emotional well-being by addressing psychological factors while identifying and tackling external stressors and issues affecting one’s overall well-being, encompassing areas such as social connections, family dynamics, and broader social systems with a holistic approach.
Lili’s approach
Lili’s passion in the counselling space is helping her clients rise from their self-defeating thoughts and behaviours to realise their potential. Lili views her clients as the experts in their lives. As a therapist, she would walk alongside her clients and assist them in tuning into their strengths and resilience. Lili’s therapeutic style is focused on building trusting relationships with her clients through compassion, collaboration, care and respect. Lili believes trust in the counselling space is important to support clients to feel safe emotionally and physically.
The therapeutic approaches Lili utilises range from a strength-based approach, person-centred therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, trauma-informed frameworks, attachment theory, Polyvagal theory, family systems theory, and neuroscience of trauma. Lili is open to hearing your feedback and willing to adjust her approaches to tailor what works best for you.
